#001 – To Boldly Go

On this episode of the Reel World Theology Podcast:

The Reel World Theology Podcast kicks off by “boldly going” into the realm of audio recordings. Its continuing mission will be to bring you some great discussions on the themes, stories, and world-views that dominate our favorite popular films. Oh, and we will probably goof around from time to time.

With Star Trek: Into Darkness, JJ Abrahms brings us his second installment in the “other-verse” that was started in 2009 to kickstart the Star Trek franchise. This time, there are familiar characters who have had their history and outlooks changed by the events of the first film. We will take a look at the relationship of Kirk and Spock and how their relationship is progressing and has changed from the original Star Trek series. We will also take a look at the difference between the future that Gene Roddenberry imagined versus the realities of humanity that draw audiences into theaters to see these and other movies. We also talk about the scenes that meant the most to us and do not to neglect the inevitable “come on” moments that had us shaking our heads in disbelief.
