New Feature: Moral Dilemma Dialogue

Entertainment is not mindless. That is our motto here. Usually what is meant by that is an appeal for people to look deeper than the surface and see what messages our entertainment is trying to convey. Sometimes it is clear-cut, other times it’s more nuanced. But sometimes there are two equally difficult items to deal with that weigh heavy on the story or the characters as a moral dilemma. On those occasions we are faced with a choice between two or more equally undesirable choices. Beginning next month we are introducing a new feature that hopes to tackle those situations and examine them completely. We bring you: the Moral Dilemma Dialogue (MDD).

gone baby goneThis will be a regular feature in which we look at one film and break down one or more moral dilemmas presented in it. We’ll ask all the penetrating questions: Was the right choice made in the film? What would you do? Could it have been avoided? Most importantly we will examine what the Bible has to say about the various topics we come across in these movies.

Two of our contributors will take opposing sides of a dilemma presented in the movie we’re examining. Each writer will approach the topic in the way it is presented in the movie and develop their arguments accordingly. They may be arguing from a Christian perspective, or maybe from a humanistic view. Either way, our hope is that some good discussion gets going in the comments of each post, and we can all develop a better understanding of the various perspectives in some very difficult issues to navigate through.

million dollar babyWe can all think of some movies right off the bat that expose a moral dilemma of some kind; Saving Private Ryan, A Time to Kill, Gone Baby Gone. We want to keep that list growing so we’re looking for suggestions from our readers for films to review for the MDD. If you have a movie you think presents an interesting moral dilemma, please comment below and we’ll get it in the lineup. We hope you look forward to this new feature. We’re excited to get into some great discussions!
